The Walk In Surgery

This has operated at Waverley Road for a number of years and was one of the services you told us you really valued when we asked your views in the run up to the merger. With this in mind, we have expanded this so as to benefit patients from both practices.

This means that all patients who need to be seen on the day are now directed to the walk in surgery. The system for booking urgent 'on the day' appointments has been changed: if you phone to request an 'on the day' urgent appointment our receptionists will usually advise you to attend the walk in surgery. If you feel your problem cannot wait until the next walk in surgery you may be asked to attend to see the duty doctor at the end of their booked surgery as an urgent case. However this is only for emergencies that cannot wait until the next walk in surgery for medical reasons. We ask patients to choose the most appropriate appointment for your problem so we can offer you the most responsive service we can.

For patients who are not used to this service, it operates on a first come, first served basis. There is no appointment needed, simply attend betwen 9-11am, Monday to Friday. On some mornings we also have a triage nurse available who is able to see and treat most patients (with the exception of children under the age of 1 year) who works closely with the GPs.

Please remember, the walk in surgery is intended to be a one stop clinic to help with problems which you feel cannot wait until the next available booked appointment. It can be busy which means we can usually only deal with one main problem in these surgeries. if you have a number of issues you would like to discuss we can offer you more time if you book a routine appointment.
